Not sure about you but I love a technical challenge when trying find a Xumo Box Universal Remote for channel surfing. (Skip the story & go to solution). Our service provider, Spectrum, had raised the monthly rate for a TV channel box to the highway robbery price of $15 per month. Their alternative, as they attempt to have customers move to streaming devices, is the Xumo ES Box with the remote control from hell. The overall theme of our home entertainment is for my dear elderly immobile mother to watch and enjoy television with ease. And ease was the TV cable box remote’s middle name. The choice to save$180 a year and get the not universally avalable Spectrum Android TV app sort of forced us into the Spectrum Xumo Stream Box ES1 Model ESST11AEI.
Sacriledge – No channel surfing possible!
The glorious Spectrum website informs you that there is a remote with the channel surfing up/down buttons but of course is currently not available- good on ya management team! (Skip the story & go to solution)
The Awful PR3 – Need a Xumo Box Universal Remote
Yikes! No channel surfing buttons- who in their right mind would design something like this for a ISP provider that has a TV app like Spectrum. Best fail of 2025 in my book (or website). The small size with number bottons on bottom makes selction awkward and a two handed operation.
Alas my good man just use the “Voice Search”. NOT- doesn’t work with the Spectrum app loaded.
SOLVED Xumo Box Universal Remote
I had previosuly purchased a RCA Universal Remote model RCR413BHE for use on a old Roku Stream Box used as a home security camera monitor. So I went and tried it on the Xumo ES1. The ES1 is not listed on the chart containing the control codes so I tried the following using the enclosed directions:
Xfinty Cable Set Top Box settings – 17141
Xumo appears to be part of Xfinity and voila “only” the channel up/down buttons work via Infrared (IR). Sure two remotes are needed but my dear mother only watches the Spectrum app channels. Once I load the Spectrum TV app in the morning her day goes by smoothly…
OK, I hoped this helped someone in dire straits taking care of their parents and using Spectrum. Happy Surfing!
